Sub-Zero to Freedom

I’m a single father of two kids. I have no experience in the internet, except writing content for my martial arts school. The school has been around since 1994 and has about 20 students (half in Edmonton, half in Calgary), so you can see that’s not super great. I’m a” newby” as many internet marketers would label me, so I’ve discovered. Fresh meat, so to speak. Well, right now I’m at sub-zero. I bring in less money than what I need in order to keep my house and keep up with the bills.

I also work three jobs. Well, one of them is a part-time business where I do bookkeeping and taxes for people and small business. Since I have equal custody of my kids, that means that every minute I’m not with them, I’m working. So, where am I going to find the time to do this? I’m not sure, but I have to do this if I want to keep my house. I have to start bringing in no less that $1500 per month by March of 2009, just to stay afloat (whether I do that through other employment, expansion of my business or whatever, it doesn’t matter). [Note: Tax season is great! I did bring in enough so far from my p/t business to keep me going until the end of June.]

To get ahead I have to bring in more. My goal is to bring in no less than $7,000 per month (after taxes). That’s about $120,000 per year. That much will allow me to actually have a real life, without extreme worries in my finances, and to be able to raise my kids in an average standard of living.

Why so much? Well, I’m recently split (divorced). She left me with all of our joint bills. And I’ve had to increase those in order to survive. Without two incomes, I’ve had to live partially off of credit in order to make ends meet. And am still doing that. The $120k per year will allow me to start paying these down and live the standard of living that a family making about $75,000 per year would make. We’re talking a family income here, typically the same income two people bring in. According to statistics Canada the average family income is over $80,000 per year (Canadian $$ of course). I gotta do that on my own, and then some. My job isn’t doing it, and I’ve truly discovered that working for someone else really is a dead end if you want to really get ahead in the world.

Building an online mini-empire is the only way that I can see myself being able to do this while I am still working. I have to work. I don’t mind my job, but I feel like I’m never going to get anywhere doing that. So, I have to find a better way. Working for someone else offers little security, other than what legislation provides (two weeks notice… hmmm. How secure is that?).

Well, watch here! Any advice is appreciated, as is any feedback or comments that you can give me! Encouragement is also appreciated.
